In this role you’ll create the code, configurations and integrations that are used to deliver infrastructure lifecycle as fully automated processes. Typical automation work is a combination of creating workflows using orchestrator technology, developing scripts to integrate with and configure infrastructure and utilising configuration management tools to maintain desired state.

Infrastructure Automation involves many diverse infrastructure products and will require the programming of APIs and CLIs as well as use of scripting technologies.  This could be things such as virtual servers, DNS records, load balancing, firewall rules, user accounts, virtual desktops, database and middleware platforms etc. Delivery of these services is automated and the development, test, release and debug of these automations is the responsibility of the Automation Engineering team.

How will you add value on a day-to-day basis?

You’ll develop infrastructure automations, implement automation solutions, whilst ensuring they are robust and pass appropriate test criteria. You’ll create, test and integrate infrastructure templates, configuration definitions, orchestrated workflows, automation scripts and automation modules. You’ll also ensure that automations are fit to be promoted to staging and live environments, and ensure debug activity related to defects in live automation is resolved according to service level requirements.

What will make you the ideal candidate?

You’ll have some experience of developing infrastructure as code, as well as system administration experience using Windows and Linux/ Unix. You’ll have some knowledge of interpreted languages such as Python, JavaScript, Ruby, as well as knowledge of working with command line technologies including BASH and PowerShell.

Experience with the following technologies are advantageous:

- Data centre computing: VMware vRealize, vSphere

- End user computing: Citrix, Active Directory, Exchange

- Networking: Cisco, Fortinet, F5

- Monitoring: BMC, AppDynamics, Splunk

- Public Cloud: AWS, Azure

- DevOps practices including version control, automated testing, continuous integration, continuous deployment

- Experience in creating workflows using orchestrator tools (e.g. Jenkins, vCentre Orchestrator, Ansible Tower)
